DEXA SCAN: Body Fat, Muscle, and Bone Testing (https://dexascan.com/)

When last did you perform a body scan? can you remember? most of us tend to overlook our health.
Lately,  there has been a lot of buzz about body scans and their use as diagnostic tools for early detection of cancers, cardiovascular disease, and other issues. What better scan to use than the Dexa scan.

What is Dexa scan?
A DEXA scan, or dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (the measurement of the amount of radiation absorbed (as by living tissue) especially to determine density), uses x ray technology to determine the distribution of lean muscle, fat, water, and bone in your body. Unlike any other body composition measuring tool, DEXA results are highly accurate and highly reproducible.

It works by passing two safe and very low dose x-ray beams at differing energy levels through the tissues of the body. The amount of radiation that passes through the tissue is measured by a detector. The computer then determines how much of your tissue is muscle fat water or bone and where it’s all stored.

A lot of people are curious about how a scan works and one thing you should know is that understanding technology and how it works before it is used on you is very important which is why Dexa scan have fully outlined how the scanning process works and different things that can influence the scan result.

Importance
Knowing the current state of your body is very important. It gives you the most precise information about your body fat, muscle, and bone composition, and lets you track changes in body composition over time. Fitness enthusiasts, athletes, and dieters often use body composition scans to get a baseline of where they are now and to objectively measure their progress.
Are you a bodybuilder?
Bodybuilders on a bulk or a cut, want information on how much muscle they are actually gaining during a bulk, or how much muscle they are losing on a cut. This is important because you need to know your body limits and understand your body very well, what works for your body and what can harm you. This is a very effective and informative body building tool.

How a DEXA Body Composition Scan Works?
The total scan takes about 7 minutes, where you’ll be lying flat on the scanning bed. The DEXA is the ‘gold standard’ body composition testing. It has the greatest precision and shorter scan times.

STEP 1
Find a location near you
This is very convenient because you can perform a Dexa scan near you. When you click on the location, a search space is available for you to insert your city or location to see both the pricing and the nearest Dexa scanning center. All locations have different prices which are listed long side each city.

STEP 2
Schedule an appointment
After your location has appeared, the list of available centers are out-listed, click on the nearest to you to further get a booking appointment. A phone number is available, email address, and time in which each scanning center ends and begins.

STEP 3
What not to do before the scan
Prepare! Do not take calcium supplements for at least 24 hours before the exam and avoid wearing clothes with metal zippers or hooks.
(Effect of calcium tablets on the interpretation of lumbar spine DXA scans. ... Undissolved calcium (Ca) tablets in the gastrointestinal tract at the time of a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan could conceivably affect the accuracy of the lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) determination).

STEP 4
Follow the instructions carefully
Lay flat on the scanning bed for roughly 7 minutes

STEP 5
Results and explanations
Directly after you’re scanned, you’ll get your results and you will be walked through with a professional. It actually takes around 5 mins to get your result.
