What are the health benefits of palm oil?

All my life I saw my mum used the native red oil to make meals such as soup, stew, etc. Red oil also known as palm oil has a unique taste, especially when the oil is freshly extracted from palm nuts. It tastes great and gives your food a nice appetizing aroma.

If you are familiar with the red oil but do not know the health benefits, here are the health benefits of using palm oil to cook.

Brain Health
Palm oil is an excellent source of tocotrienols, a form of vitamin E with strong antioxidant properties that may support brain health. Palm oil may help protect brain function, reduce heart disease risk factors and increase vitamin A levels in certain people

Improved Vitamin A Status
Palm oil can help improve vitamin A status in people who are deficient or at risk of deficiency. Studies in pregnant women in developing countries have shown that consuming red palm oil increases vitamin A levels in their blood, as well as in their breastfed infants

Heart Health

Palm oil has been credited with providing protection against heart disease

Acts as a very good antioxidants
Red palm oil contains vitamin E tocotrienols, which acts as a super-antioxidant and the carotenoids in red palm oil also act as antioxidants.

Palm oil is 100% fat, half of which is saturated. It also contains vitamin E and red palm oil contains antioxidants called carotenoids, which your body can convert into vitamin A. In general please note that since it contains fat your intake matters a lot. Your intake determines the impact it has on your health.

Have a good day.

  2. Natural fats are essential nutrients. But, there are more than enough available in your local area that makes for no need to get an exotic oil that has other uses more suited than human consumption. Just stay away from the processed fats like margarine, shortening, canola oil, et al.

  3. No idea, but I wouldn´t touch palm oil with a meter long stick.

They burn down half of Indonesia every few years to plant it producing humongous amount of smoke and particles that get carried a long way towards other countries and pumping zillions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, killing endangered species, displacing the people who once made a decent living of the jungle and leaving them homeless or forcing them to work in the plantations for hunger salaries and in deplorable conditions that cost them their health and lives:

No, tank you. I stick to olive.
