Impressive Health Benefits of Apples

You are aware of the adage about apples and physicians, correct? Researchers tested the old adage a few years ago, using dietary data from roughly 8,400 adults, including 753 who reported eating an apple daily. While daily apple eaters appeared to use fewer prescription medications, they were no less likely than the rest of the research population to attend health care appointments.

However, in 2020, an article in Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition discovered a slew of heart-health benefits associated with apple eating. Consuming one medium apple daily, the authors concluded, may help reduce blood pressure, cholesterol, and inflammation. Apples, both peeled and unpeeled, are a wonderful source of fiber and substances called polyphenols that promote heart health.

Red Delicious, McIntosh, Fuji, Gala, and Honeycrisp are popular apple types, but more than 100 varietals are produced commercially in this country. Refrigerate apples to maintain their freshness. Apples are convenient, nutrient-dense snacks, particularly when combined with peanut butter or low-fat cheese. However, chunks or slices of these crisp fruits can be included in a variety of recipes, including whole-grain pancakes, sandwiches, and salads.

What are the advantages of an apple a day?

Apples are highly healthy, and eating them has been linked to a decreased chance of developing a variety of severe diseases, including diabetes and cancer. Additionally, the soluble fiber in this fruit may aid with weight loss and digestive health. A medium apple contains 1.5 cups of fruit, which is 3/4 of the recommended daily fruit intake of two cups.

How many apples am I allowed to consume each day?

On average, a person can consume between one and two apples each day.
