There are some bloggers who do it for the love of it, and there are some who blog with the goal of making money, and every reason anyone chooses to blog counts. I am aware that blogging can take a lot of time; therefore, I can only speculate as to why many bloggers stopped updating their blogs.
Blogging may take on any format or subject, but I prefer lifestyle blogging, which covers anything from personal experiences to fashion, health, fitness, decor, travel, food, business, etc. A blog gives you free access to an extensive amount of firsthand information that you can only get when you read blogs. I remember reading a very nice post recently about what you need to know about cesarean section. From my point of view as a doctor, when I read that post, I saw it from the patient's point of view, which doesn't only deal with her health but also covers her comfort, her healing process, her feelings, and the materials she needed to ask for, which many people do not ask for before leaving the hospital. Blogs are underestimated a lot, and I believe bloggers should be given much more accolades than they get because most blogs I read share organic and very insightful contents.
What made me write this post was that each time I visit a blog and there isn't a new post, I go back to old posts to read and comment. Sometimes I end up visiting the blogs of bloggers and influencers that have commented below the posts, and then I get to see lovely blogs that have stopped being updated. Additionally, from time to time I visit my old posts and check out the comments so I can keep in touch with other bloggers, only to see that many of them have stopped blogging. I mean, these were bloggers that had good style, lifestyle, cooking blogs, etc., which made me wonder why a lot of bloggers have stopped blogging.
After pondering why a lot of bloggers stopped blogging, I came up with the following possible reasons:
1. Social media intimidationA lot of bloggers have stopped blogging because they feel they are not growing or achieving their goals in line with their blogging goals. It is understandable to try something new if you are a full-time blogger, but if you blog for fun, stopping entirely might not help your growth.
2. While new social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and others have emerged over time, some bloggers have also changed with the times. Despite some bloggers abandoning their blogs and concentrating on the new social media platforms, a blog is a platform that people never stop using or searching for. People grow tired of social media platforms, but blogging is an all-time favourite. And you have complete control over your content, and you are free to be more creative; your blog is a website that people always turn to for information and would always be helpful because it will appear in searches when related topics are looked for in search engines, but for example, when you post a picture on Instagram after a day or two, it becomes old, and people barely engage with it again.
3. I once read a blog where the author talked about how her health issues might make her stop blogging, which is understandable.
4. Some bloggers have just lost interest, maybe due to their daily job taking up their time or because blogging was never their passion.
At the moment, this is all I can come up with about why most bloggers have stopped updating their blogs. Let me know your opinion below.
Why have lots of bloggers stopped blogging and updating their blogs? What do you think?
I do think it's a lot more work than people realize, so that can be an issue.
ReplyDeleteBut also, life does evolve. What works at one point in our life doesn't always make sense down the road.
I do think it's such a great way to learn more about different areas in our life and especially to get great inspiration for fashion and style.

A lot of people think blogging is about posting fashionable photos, but it's more than that. Blogging has been a source of useful information for years, which has benefited everyone who uses the internet. So, when most people start blogging without realising what it entails, some give up after a while.
DeleteYo creo que como dices, es porque se han mudado a otras redes sociales como tik tok e instagram y la verdad yo tambien opino que los blogs son muy buenos, ojala volvieran a ser el exito que eran antes, saludos:D
ReplyDeleteYes, that is another point. A lot of bloggers have moved to social media sites like Instagram and TikTok, which are trending at the moment.
DeleteThis is an excellent topic to consider since your observation that many blogs have ended is accurate. That development is sad. Your ideas about why this is happening also sound accurate. Good post!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shybiker; this post was written with realism in mind. When I read a blog that hasn't been updated in a while, I click on the social media links and discover that the majority of them are quite active on social media.
DeleteDear friend! I love my both blogs! I am sorry some bloggers stop blogging and move to a social media.
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty nice =)
ReplyDeleteA really interesting post. It's really sad that so many bloggers don't use blogs anymore. Of course Social Media is big but I also love to read normal posts =)
Same here, Yasmina. Reading blogs is one of my favourite hobbies, and they have enlightened me on many insightful and useful life lessons.
DeleteIt’s a good question, and I suspect you’ve covered most of the reasons. I had a quilt blog for many years up until 2010. Then I had a major life upset (father died, I became responsible for his parents, and moved halfway across the country, etc). While setting up my new existence I just didn't have the wherewithal to blog. But I came back to it eventually. I blog just for the fun and the sense of community.

I am so sad to hear about your father, but I am glad that you are able to continue doing what you enjoy and that you are able to keep moving forward. Moving to another country is not exactly a walk in the park. Blogging also provides me with a sense of community, which is something I value.
Deleteyour points are understandable....
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing your post
The saddest thing is when a blogger dies....
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this post, Melody, and I've felt how you're feeling many times. I always feel sad when some of my favorite bloggers stop blogging or I worry that something may be wrong if they're not posting regularly. There can definitely be a multitude of reasons why some will stop blogging. For me, while I've never actually stopped, I have been inconsistent due to things happening in my personal life. It can get a little overwhelming and sometimes I fail to keep up with everything (just had this happen this month, haha!), but I love my blog and can't imagine stopping it completely.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a fantastic weekend! :)
Make Life Marvelous
I guess there comes a time when you really struggle for something to blog about. I did take a hiatus for almost a year. And I also know many bloggy buddies who ditched their blogs for Instagram. And for some, the novelty ran out.
ReplyDeleteI've been blogging for the past 9 years, and have kept up with it, with no breaks! It's something I truly enjoy...even thought it's a ton of work! I give myself credit for not quitting, even though sometimes it would be easier to :)

Social media is absolutely one of the reasons - fewer people want to take the time to read a blog post and would rather watch tiktok videos. Not necessarily bad, just different. I keep blogging because I genuinely enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a great week so far!
