Many factors affect the health and appearance of your skin and hair. Big ones are UV light, chemicals like smoke and air pollution, and how you take care of your skin and hair. But these are outside factors.
A lot also depends on your genes, the normal aging process, and the way you live your life (“beauty sleep” is a real thing). And so does what you eat. These are the things you eat and the nutrients you take.
What foods will make your skin glow and your hair stay healthy? Let's jump right in!
The best vitamins and supplements for skin care
Using hydrating creams and serums on your hair and skin can make you look great, but they only work on the surface. Vitamins for skin care, when taken orally, provide your body with the necessary nutrients to enhance your appearance from the inside out.
Ceramides
Ceramides are healthy oils that help your skin keep its wetness, which is important for keeping your skin soft and looking young. Ceramides are also a big part of your skin's barrier, which helps keep the cells on the surface together. But as we age, our ceramide levels naturally drop. This makes it harder to keep our skin smooth and healthy. Using a ceramide product, which maintains skin hydration and promotes healthy ceramide levels, can enhance the appearance and feel of your skin.
Collagen
Do you want to have healthy, beautiful skin that is free from wrinkles? The collagen in your food may be hard to absorb because its molecules are so big. However, collagen is important for healthy, smooth skin. Your body can more easily utilize smaller pieces of hydrolyzed collagen, known as collagen peptides. Studies have shown that it helps make collagen and elastin. In fact, a study of women aged 35 to 55 showed that taking hydrolyzed collagen every day for eight weeks made their skin much more stretchy.
Vitamin C
Your skin keeps you safe from the weather. But all of those attempts to keep people safe cost something. To keep your skin healthy, vitamin C can help keep its structure and function in excellent shape. It can also keep your skin looking smooth and beautiful and protect you from toxic stress in the environment. This vitamin C formula will keep your face in great shape because it helps your body make collagen and protects your cells. It has a mix of rosemary, olive leaf, lemon verbena, and Japanese sophora that can help your skin look younger and smoother. It also has highly concentrated rice ceramides that help your skin keep its moisture.
Vegan Collagen
Are you a vegetarian? Are you a vegan? Are you just trying to eat fewer foods that come from animals? You can be beautiful and eat plants at the same time. Support healthy skin and lessen the look of wrinkles with a vegan collagen replacement that helps your body make its own collagen. This vegan skincare formula has the same amino acid profile as type I collagen, which is the most common type of collagen found in skin. Clinical settings have tested vitamin C, gotu kola, and ginseng root extracts in this formula. Studies have shown that it promotes healthy collagen density and skin hydration and lessens the look of wrinkles and fine lines.
Vitamin B3 (niacinamide)
Sure, we love sunny days, but even a little UV light can be bad for your face. Take a supplement that supports the health of your DNA before, during, and after UV exposure to shield your skin from the inside out. Niacinamide, a type of vitamin B3, helps the body's defense system respond naturally to UV light, makes protective ATP, and gives cells more energy. This helps protect against the effects of UV light that come with getting older and promotes healthy skin.
The best vitamins and supplements for hair care
For hair to be strong and healthy, it begins from within. Feed your hair these important nutrients from the roots to the ends for the strongest hair possible.
Collagen containing solubilized keratin
Hair that is healthy needs more than collagen to keep its shape and function. Keratin is also beneficial for your skin and hair. Several nutrients that have been studied in clinical settings and found to improve beauty from the inside out are in this collagen and solubilized keratin mixture. Bioactive collagen peptides in it help the skin grow and fix itself, and they also make the skin more resistant to UV damage. Other chemicals help the skin stay flexible, keep nails healthy, help make keratin, and make hair shine and look bright.
Biotin
Our bodies make fewer of the structural proteins we need to keep our hair, skin, and nails healthy as we age. Biotin is a water-soluble B7 vitamin that can help keep your hair and nails healthy and strong. Keratin is an important protein that makes up your hair, nails, and skin. You need biotin to make it. Biotin also plays other roles. Cells need it to make energy, and it helps genes express themselves correctly.
What to do?
You should use more than just serums and creams to look your best. Vitamins and nutrients that are beneficial for your beauty can help keep collagen and keratin levels healthy over time. This can make your hair and skin stronger and more moisturized. Some nutrients also help protect your skin from UV rays, oxidative stress, and external factors.
So make sure your skin and hair stay healthy and glowing by making smart food choices and living a healthy lifestyle.
That's interesting about the vitamin C. I've noticed very recent changes in my hair -- growing more slowly and straightening out a bit from its natural curl. I'm chalking it down to medication changes and age! Maybe thyroid. More investigation to be done, but these are excellent points and I learned a lot here.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you're paying attention to changes. Further investigation into thyroid or other factors could help clarify.

DeleteMelody, your article is very interesting. The text is interesting for me, because unfortunately, but I don't have very thick hair. My hair is medium length (I don't want short hair), I wash my hair practically every day, I like to have my hair pinned up in a bun or tied in a ponytail on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteMelody, I salute you!
I'm glad you found the article interesting. Daily hair care routines like yours can definitely help maintain its health.

DeleteThank you for another interesting read full of useful tips. Don't we all want our skin and hair to look its best, whatever our age? I'm lucky to have inherited my mother's genes and that my skin is still relatively wrinkle free in my early 60s. I do agree that a healthy life style and protecting one's skin from the harmful rays of the sun are definitely a bonus! xxx
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! It’s wonderful that you’ve inherited such great genes, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle definitely contributes to keeping your skin looking great. Protecting skin from the sun is so important for long-term health too. Keep up the good work!

DeleteThankfully my "skin-genes" are friendly to me. Even at nearly 50 years old I had to prove I am 16 (!!!!) to buy a beer. But my hair, oh. Since ever it is thin and "useless". And supplements are too expensive here compared with the little help they did (bought in the pharmacy even).
ReplyDeleteI´ll have my eyes open for ceramides, collagen and Vitamin B3, thank you (by now I can buy beer just like that! ;-)...).
That's great that your skin is still looking youthful! As for your hair, ceramides, collagen, and Vitamin B3 are definitely worth exploring, and they can be more affordable alternatives. Hopefully, they give you the boost you're looking for!
DeleteThank you for all the information, is very useful for dry skins like me. Have a nice day dear 😘

DeleteGreat approach to vitamins, because of my age (60 years old) I now need to take supplements such as the B and D complex. I really enjoyed learning about the others, thank you very much for sharing!

You're very welcome! B and D vitamins are especially important as we age. I'm glad you found the information helpful and that you're taking steps to support your health!
DeleteIt's great to learn about these vitamin supplements. These days the food we eat is not as rich in minerals and vitamins as it used to be when it was produced the old fashioned way. So, sometimes vitamin supplements are the only way forward.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right—modern food production can sometimes lack the same nutrient density as it once did. Supplements can be a helpful way to fill in those gaps and ensure you're getting the vitamins and minerals you need.
DeleteI recently became more consistent with taking collagen, and now need to up my Vitamin C game <3
ReplyDeleteThat’s a great combination! Collagen and Vitamin C work really well together to support skin, hair, and overall health. Boosting your Vitamin C intake will help maximize the benefits of collagen!
