International Workers' Day, also known as Labour Day but also referred to as May Day in most countries is a celebration of laborers and workers in our society. 1 May was chosen to be International Workers' Day to commemorate the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago. Smithsonian Folkways Recordings group received permission from the estate of Louis Armstrong (the well-known jazz trumpet player) to release his recordings on a new album titled Satchmo IN 2012.
